I should have just gone to the drugstore to buy some, but didn't have time. Ordered two strings of these instead. They came yesterday. I plugged them in and they worked - mid way putting them up a bulb went out so I tightened it a little, and the whole string went out. I couldn't fix it. So I tried the second string and the exact same thing happened. Two dead strings, no Christmas cheer. Totally bummed, please don't buy these!
Use a good ladder when installing your lights. Secure them with insulated holders (never use tacks or nails). Don't install your lights on trees that come in contact with power lines. Before installing your Christmas lights, plug them in to make sure all of your bulbs are working. Make sure to turn your lights off when you leave or go to bed at night.

Cotton batting Christmas ornaments were popular during the years of the German Christmas toy and decoration boom at the turn of the century. They were exported in large numbers to the United States. These decorations suggested puffs of snow. Fruits and vegetables were popular subjects and often had a realistic appearance. African American and patriotic characters were fashioned for the American market. Some ornaments were used to hide boxes of candy.

Bring a shimmering glow to your decorations with this indoor or outdoor shimmering lighted American flag ornamental. This American flag comes with 10 clear mini light bulbs and a 2¼’ long lead cord that will plug into any standard 120v/60Hz wall socket. Our American flag is 16" tall by 12" wide and contains a suction cup to easily stick to any window or flat surface.

This actually works really well - the only thing is I wish the cord was a bit longer. I had to use an additional extension cord. But it worked perfectly otherwise. Has survived through a couple of really rainy days here. There is an on/off switch on the back and you can set it to go on/off with many different times. I set it for dawn/dusk so it goes on at dusk and goes off at dawn. LOVE that feature - don't even have to think about my lights! And there are 6 different place to plug in your lights so you can have so many! I'll post a picture of all my lights that are plugged into it.

Christmas lights were first made available for sale in 1890, but were so expensive that most people could not afford them. They were a symbol of status among the wealthy and many people rented lights instead of buying them. In 1903, one set of 24 Christmas lights sold for $12.00. Considering the average person made about $9 a week, this was far too extravagant for the normal family. In addition to the cost of the lights, the service of a wireman was required and, if the house was not electrically powered, they also needed a generator.
