Christmas lights were first made available for sale in 1890, but were so expensive that most people could not afford them. They were a symbol of status among the wealthy and many people rented lights instead of buying them. In 1903, one set of 24 Christmas lights sold for $12.00. Considering the average person made about $9 a week, this was far too extravagant for the normal family. In addition to the cost of the lights, the service of a wireman was required and, if the house was not electrically powered, they also needed a generator.

LED Mega Sphere Lighted Display is a beautiful and versatile decoration. These vibrant balls of light are wrapped in LED mini lights for a brilliant glow and superior energy efficiency. Complete with a 6" lead, included S-hook and collapsible design, this mega sphere is as easy to install as it is to store, making them convenient enough to use on any occasion.
In many countries, Christmas lights, as well as other Christmas decorations, are traditionally erected on or around the first day of Advent.[5][6] In the Western Christian world, the two traditional days when Christmas lights are removed are Twelfth Night and Candlemas, the latter of which ends the Christmas-Epiphany season in some denominations.[7] Leaving the decorations up beyond Candlemas is historically considered to be inauspicious.[8]
Halloween is the most popular, with miniature light strings having black-insulated wires and semi-opaque orange bulbs. Later sets had some transparent purple bulbs (a representation of black, similar to blacklight), a few even have transparent green, or a translucent or semi-opaque lime green (possibly representing slime as in Ghostbusters, or creatures like goblins or space aliens). Two types of icicle lights are sold at Halloween: all-orange, and a combination of purple and green known as "slime lights".
Very pleasing effect. LEDs are cool-white. "Tail" effect suggests more comet than snowflakes, as does the speed. When first turned on, all tubes are 'in sync," but they drift apart over time, which is good, since random timing between tubes is more pleasing. Wire between tubes is about 13", so that is the maximum spacing when hung. Strings can be tied end-to-end. We are powering three strings using only one of the 5V power supplies that came with them. This is convenient, since AC power is needed only at one end of the group. No info on how many strings will run from a single power supply, but we can attest that at least three do. Still photos do not do them justice. Neither does my video, because they're much more impressive at night, but I wanted daylight ... full review
